Homestyle Tomato Sauce – Sugar Free & No Nasty Ingredients

Looking for a sugar free tomato sauce to serve with your sausage rolls?  Then look no further.  Quick and simple to make with the bonus of knowing there are no nasty ingredients.

Homestyle Tomato Sauce

  • Servings: 1 cup
  • Difficulty: Easy

1 tin of tomatoes (400g) It is important to read the label.  There must be nothing but tomatoes in their juice or puree.  Definitely no added sugar and preferably low salt.
50g butter (or 50 mls extra virgin olive oil)
Salt & pepper to taste
Optional – Chilli flakes to taste

Mix tinned tomatoes with the butter, add a grind or two of pepper (some chili flakes if you want it spicy).
Simmer very gently over a low heat for 25 to 30 minutes or until it is reduced to a thick sauce.
Mash or blitz with a stick blender if you want a smooth sauce.
Use straight away or cool and store, covered, in the fridge.
